Mitchell Robinson has been ruled out of Friday's contest against the Mavericks after sustaining a concussion on Wednedsay against the Pistons, the team announced

Doctors observed Robinson on Wednesday night in Detroit and cleared him to fly with the Knicks to Dallas. Robinson first felt concussion symptoms when he looked into the light following a dunk in the second quarter and was immediately removed from the game.

Since he's in concussion protocol, it's uncertain when Robinson would be able to return to practices or games.

Robinson left the game early after taking an elbow in the paint to the head. He was down on the floor for a good amount of time before walking off. Robinson posted six points, four rebounds and an assist while shooting 3-for-4 from the field in eight minutes.

He got the start at center after second-year head coach David Fizdale shuffled lineup Sunday and went with fourth-year forward Bobby Portis in Robinson's place before the Knicks' 113-92 home loss to the Sacramento Kings. Now it would be an educated guess to say Portis will get the start again down low, while Taj Gibson can come off the bench.

"Tough," Barrett said of losing Robinson after a 122-102 loss to the Pistons. "He's very big for us, especially ... protecting the rim. Once he went out, it was kind of tough for us, but hoping he can get back soon."

Facing off against Kristaps Porzingis & Co., Robinson's loss will definitely be felt. It's up to the Knicks' depth to step up as he works to get back soon.
