The Rangers appear to be moving toward hiring John Davidson to replace Glen Sather as the team's president, according to Larry Brooks of The Post.

Davidson, 66, is currently the president of the Columbus Blue Jackets, who just unexpectedly swept the top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Rangers would have to wait until the Blue Jackets are out of the playoffs before they can hire Davidson, though.

Per Brooks, the Rangers had reached out to Steven Yzerman, who instead decided to return to Detroit and become the Red Wings' general manager.

Davidson, a former player for the Rangers, has close ties to the organization.

He was the goaltender from 1975-83 and a color commentator for Rangers games on MSG Network from 1986-2006.

He also has experience working as a team president for the last 13 years, originally starting as President of Hockey Operations with the St. Louis Blues in 2006 before his contract was bought out and he joined the Blue Jackets in 2012.
