The Mets had several chances to win in extra innings after a dramatic three-run rally in the ninth inning to tie the game at five but manager Carlos Mendoza said, "we needed the last one and we didn't get it." Mendoza lamented the team's failure to make adjustments at the plate and continually hitting ground balls that failed to produce the winning run.

Mets starter David Peterson's "assignment" on Saturday night was to go deep into game against the defending champion Dodgers and he responded with his best performance of the season, pitching into eighth inning of the Mets 5-2 win. Juan Soto had been hitting in hard luck but his two-run, bases loaded double in the fourth inning was in Brett Baty's words, "huge." Baty had a pretty good night himself with two RBI as the Mets bounced back from the 13-inning marathon loss on Friday night.

With the Mets bullpen stretched thin, manager Carlos Mendoza got a "big boy performance" from starter David Peterson, who pitched into the eighth inning in a 5-2 win over the Dodgers. Brett Baty also impressed Mendoza with excellent adjustments at the plate and a two-RBI night. Juan Soto, marred in a 1-for-24 slump with men in scoring position delivered a bases loaded double that put the Mets ahead to stay.

Jeff McNeil thought the team took some really good at-bats and played hard but came up short in their 13-inning loss to the Dodgers. McNeil's two-run triple in the ninth inning helped the Mets tie the game and send it to extras. Mark Vientos felt some abdominal pain while in the hitting cage prior to the game and was kept out of the lineup. Brandon Nimmo aggravated a neck injury he originally sustained in 2019 and removed himself after one at-bat.

Yankees starter Carlos Rodon pitched another gem, striking out eight batters over six innings for his fourth straight win as the Bombers swept a three-game series from Texas 1-0. The bullpen then finished the job led by Luke Weaver, who completed his seventh save with a perfect ninth inning. The game's only run came from rookie Jorbit Vivas, who belted his first MLB home run and was "happy and excited to finally make the connection."
