Watson was the Mets seventh-round pick in 2024, displayed a good pitching repertoire, effectively shutting down his Asheville opponents.

After his last start in Colorado, Mets starter Clay Holmes was more "sore" than at any point this season since his transition from the bullpen to the starting rotation. He and manager Carlos Mendoza capped his pitch count at 85 as a precaution and feels it will benefit him going forward. Paul Blackburn relieved Holmes but allowed four runs in an eventual Tampa Bay comeback win. Blackburn admitted having difficulty finding a good "routine" in the bullpen but conceded that he left some pitches up and "they didn't miss them."

The normally reliable Paul Blackburn and Max Kranick were hit hard in the sixth inning, turning a 5-1 Mets lead into a 7-5 defeat after allowing six runs. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza thought Blackburn's stuff was "flat" and Kranick left too many pitches over the plate. Mendoza did have some good news to report about Kodai Senga's hamstring injury, which has been diagnosed as a "low grade strain" and he will be re-evaluated in two weeks time.

It was a rare off-night for the Mets bullpen as they squandered a 5-1 lead, falling to Tampa Bay 7-5. Paul Blackburn allowed four runs in the fateful sixth inning and Rays catcher Danny Jansen capped off the six-run inning with a two-run homer off Max Kranick that gave the Rays the lead for good. Starling Marte was the lone bright spot for the Mets, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
