For Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, it was "special" to hit his 250th career home run in the first inning and get the team off to a good start. The Giants would battle back to take the lead but Brandon Nimmo said the entire order did a great job adding on runs to break their four-game losing streak. Starter Kodai Senga continued to struggle, being pulled after four innings. He called his pitches "uncompetitive" but continues to try finding a rhythm for his next start.

Mets  manager Carlos Mendoza knew the top of the Mets lineup would finally break out and it happened Saturday afternoon as they combined for nine hits and 10 RBI in 12-6 win over the Giants. He had special praise for Pete Alonso hitting his 250th career home run, just two shy of Darryl Strawberry's franchise record. The only blemish on the day was a struggling Kodai Senga, who lasted just four innings and while Mendoza acknowledged Senga's frustration, he remains confident that the right hander will stick with the process that will get him back to form.

The top of the Mets lineup drove in 10 of their 12 runs as they snapped a four-game losing streak with a 12-6 win over the Giants. Francisco Lindor had four RBI, while Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso drove in three runs apiece with Alonso providing an immediate spark for New York with a three-run homer in the first inning, the 250th of his career.

Mets starter David Peterson threw another solid six-inning outing but was disappointed with the second inning when he allowed the Giants to score two runs because he "wasn't aggressive enough" and fell behind in counts. Both Peterson and Pete Alonso complimented Giants ace Robbie Ray for throwing an "electric" game and keeping the Mets quiet through the seventh. Alonso who launched a solo shot off Ray, still felt the team as a whole put together some good ab's and hope to carry that into the weekend.

It was a long day at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, with GM Brian Cashman making several deals at the trade deadline. That coupled with a nearly three-hour rain delay turned the Yankees 7-4 win over the Rays into a marathon. Manager Aaron Boone is "excited" about the new additions to the relief core with closer Devin Williams adding that Camilo Doval throws "a hundred miles an hour." Giancarlo Stanton offered that the win made the endless wait worthwhile.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman spoke with the media about the team's acquisitions of relievers David Bednar, Camilo Doval and Jake Bird at the trade deadline. Cashman felt the bullpen was a critical area of need and gives manager Aaron Boone more flexibility to mix and match later in the game. While he declared that no one was untouchable, his praise of top prospect Spencer Jones indicated that Cashman was certainly not close to dealing him.

Despite losing their fourth straight game, 4-3 to the Giants in 10 innings, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza still saw some positive signs. Another solid six-inning performance from David Peterson, an overpowering Mets debut from reliever Ryan Helsley and Pete Alonso going to the opposite field "with authority" for his 23rd home run of the season.

The Mets were held in check by Giants starter Robbie Ray through the first seven innings but mounted a comeback to tie the game in the eighth. Then former Met Dom Smith stuck it to his old team with a pinch-hit RBI single in the 10th inning as New York lost it's fourth straight game 4-3.
