The Yankees will reportedly meet with free agent Manny Machado during the Winer Meetings but are unwilling to pay him a $300 million contract, according to Fancred's Jon Heyman.

New York is among several teams, including the Phillies and White Sox, who are heavily interested in the 26-year-old infielder.

Many rivals, according to SNY.tv's Andy Martino, believe the Yankees will be contenders to land Machado despite the idea that they are "lukewarm" on signing him following his "Johnny Hustle" comments.

Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner previously said he wanted to sit down with Machado to discuss those comments, which came after he was criticized for his lack of effort and his on-field antics during the World Series.

The Yankees have a need in the infield given shortstop Didi Gregorius will miss a significant amount of time due to Tommy John surgery, however they have also weighed other targets, including Josh Harrison.

Machado recorded a .297/.367/.538 batting line with 37 home runs and 107 RBIs in 162 games with the Orioles and Dodgers last season.
