The Jets had goals they wanted to reach when hiring their 19th head coach in franchise history. They were looking for a candidate with prior head coaching experience, and in particular, an offensive mind. Developing quarterbacks would also be a plus, too.

And the organization believed that man was former Dolphins head coach Adam Gase.

News broke Wednesday night that Gase is to be named the Jets' new head coach, and they did so knowing he could be a good mentor to young QB Sam Darnold. The rookie this season solidified his role as the quarterback of the future, and it will be up to Gase to continue that development, and hopefuly tap into his strengths to make him and the offense a dangerous group.

SNY's WIllie Colon explains why the Jets ultimately chose Gase, and what he must do with Darnold to prove it was the right choice...
